I have been engraving glass by hand since 1971. I started by teaching myself at a time when there was nobody, that I was aware of, who was offering any kind of training.

My older brother, Andy, started learning at the same time and was a great encouragement to me throughout.

I have always worked mainly to commission, engraving anything from company presentations and retirement presents to trophies, anniversary and wedding presents. My subject matter ranges widely, covering heraldry, inscriptions, company logos, people’s interests, buildings and portraits of people, horses, and dogs, and biblical subjects. I particularly enjoy working on wildlife scenes and floral designs inspired by my love of the natural world. These can be on a wide range of glass pieces, most of which I am able to supply.

Over the years, I have also engraved many large scale windows, doors and panels. These have been for churches, universities and schools, here in the UK and abroad as far afield as Sing Mun Springs, Sha Tin, Northern Territories, St Peter’s Church, Chateau D’Oex, Switzerland and Bethel Chapel, Vanessa Grant School, Rongai, Kenya.

Every year I try to have at least one exhibition. Usually this is in London, but I have also had several shows in and around Oxford where I live and occasionally elsewhere in the UK. I have exhibited in Washington DC, Paris and Geneva.

In 2009, I had the honour and privilege to be granted a Royal Warrant to be glass engraver to HM The Queen.
